To ensure optimal bird scale operation for new flock please check all points below before birds are delivered.
- New Flock: Use the new flock function before arrival of a new flock of birds to set the growth day back to 1, 0, -1, or down to -7, and to clear out old history data. This is under the Management menu in Growth Day & Flock.
- Reference Weight: Make sure the weighing method is set to ‘Auto/Sexed’ in bird scale settings, go in to the gear menu to verify upper and lower range (30% on upper 20% on lower, can be adjusted as needed). Go to bird weight screen / reference weight and set current weight to 0.09.
- Hanging Platform: Do not forget to hang the bird scale before birds arrive. If you missed the first day you will need to take manual hand weights and set the average as the current weight/reference weight.
- AD reading and factor: On internal screen go to scale menu and enter the test and calibration screens. In test, bird scale AD should be 15,000 - 20000 (with platform hanging, no birds), weight should show ZERO and status should be O.K. If there is no AD reading the wire might be damaged and needs to be inspected. In calibration screen, the factor should be 550-730, If the factor is incorrect it should be changed to what is noted on the metal plate inside the control or recalibrated.
- Calibrate bird scale, on internal screen go to scale menu to calibration and set cursor on wanted channel:
Make sure there is an inch of clearance between scale platform and bedding. Place cursor on channel 3 for bird scale 1 and follow steps below.
- Press enter to go into calibration mode. Make sure bird scale is empty before proceeding to next step.
- Press enter for tare registration. After tare wait 5 seconds.
- Place a 5 lb weight on bird scale (make sure to place the weight gently so the scale does not swing).
- On the control enter the weight, wait 5 seconds and press enter.
- Remove weight and press menu.
- Place cursor on channel 4 for scale 2 and repeat process.
- Scale platform: make sure the scale platform is tightly fastened to the scale rod, if platform is loose try fastening it with the 3/4” bolt that is under the platform. If the bolt is tightened all the way in and the platform is still lose it should be replaced.
- Tighten hook on scale: Make sure the hook is tightly screwed in to the scale rod.
- Platform height: make sure the platform is about an inch (this needs to be adjusted during the flock as litter rises).
